ELEGANT ART DECO HAMMERED SILVER PURSE FORM CIGARETTE CASE. Prestigious circa 1930 hallmarked product of Louis Kuppenheim (Pforzheim, Germany). A tour de force of silversmithing – superbly benchcrafted at the height of Art Deco fashion sweeping Europe. Cushion shape with sensuous shark skin texture. The flap incorporates a triangular mount set with sapphire cabochon. Opening on hinge-concealed spring to a rich matte vermeil interior. Removable elastic fabric straps secure contents. Fully hallmarked with metal purity, assay stamps and Kuppenheim cyphers. NOTE: Louis Kuppenheim became a renowned gold and silver case maker in Germany during the early 20th century. Company focused on small objects, including smoking articles, stationery and toiletries. Kuppenheim manufactured pieces for prestigious brands including Cartier and Boucheron, receiving. A gold medal at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris. At it’s peak, Kuppenheim employed more than 200 Pforzheim craftsmen. In addition to a shop in Paris, the company had a thriving export business; closing in 1939 with outbreak of WWII. The condition of this 90 year old old case is nothing short of astounding.
