Many of the items for sale at Jim’s International Bazaar were collected by Jim on his around the world adventures as an author, photojournalist, and photographer. They include Turkish rugs, copper and brass, and artifacts from China, New Guinea, Africa, and South America. These things are from his privet collection, none were bought for the purpose of reselling but rather to decorate his home. Many new items will be listed as they are unpacked from storage along with a wonderful collection of photographic prints including many wildlife photos and prints of tigers photographed in China. Is an internationally renowned photojournalist and adventurer, with two major photographic books (New Guinea & Cannibal), plus covers and major spreads in a whole host of internationally prestigious magazines from Life International to The Geographic and Argosy. He’s been shipwrecked in the Pacific, wrestled camels in Turkey, and scoured the New Guinea Highlands in search of missing American heir and adventurer Michael Rockefeller. He has also lived and worked in the jungles of New Guinea for over two years while collecting material for his books and records. A blue-water yachtsman, he sailed his own 60ft yacht, the “Moana Vahine”, from Hong Kong to Southern Turkey, down the South China Sea, across the Indian Ocean, and up the full length of the Red Sea, via Singapore, Penang, Sri lanki, The Maldive Islands, and French Djibouti. An avid diver and spear fisherman, he mounted a series of diving expeditions in The Maldive Islands and The Red Sea. In addition to several years in New Guinea, he has organized and/or participated in photographic expeditions in Kenya and Tanzania, in Brazil and Columbia, in Turkey and some of the more remote islands of the south pacific. “On board the forty-foot ketch, the “Marquesa, we were the first yacht to visit the remote island of Ua Pou, in the Marquesas in almost two years.

For your consideration is an Art Deco era silver plated cedar lined tabletop cigarette box. Created in the Egyptian Revival style which enjoyed a fashionable renaissance during the 1920s, this is a heavy and well crafted highly decorated piece that’s unique in its design. Engraved hieroglyphics and an open filigree of Egyptian figures surrounds the exterior of the box holding a wood cigarette case with an emerald green lacquer finish. A figure of Isis supports the box at each corner. The cover is richly detailed with woven lotus blossoms intertwined with additional Egyptian figures of nobility on top, with additional decorative detailing found on the lids interior. Standing approximately 4.5″ in height, the box measures 4″ wide, 7 in length, and weighs just under 3 pounds. No hallmark was found on inspection. Areas of light wear, particularly at the corners, as well as an occasional random speck of plate loss can be found on close inspection, though these aren’t casually noticed or distracting. Otherwise the box is in beautiful vintage condition showing mild wear commensurate to age and a history of gentle well cared for use. Is not the usual metal tin-type, cigarette-hinged lid box. With a semi-precious stone as a push-button box opener. Condition – It needs polishing, and its rubber bands inside. Have to be replaced. Gorgeous rectangular case with smoothly curved edges. Simple diagonal groove design with an engraved BAG monogram. Approximately 163 grams total weight. The interior length on the long side is 9.5 cm (the length of cigarettes it will hold). My research indicates the combined standard and town mark in an oval, as this case has, was used between 1882 and 1899 and indicates Saint Petersburg. Perhaps it is difficult to see but the 84 is followed by an asterisk-looking mark in an oval. The other side of the case has poorly stamped marks that look like another combined mark and an unreadable one. A couple of other notes if you’d like to read them: Our home is smoke free and pet free. That said, it doesn’t mean that the items I sell have never had a passing relationship with some sort of odor. If I notice it I will state it in the description. If you can smell someone in Wyoming light a cigarette while you are driving east across Tennessee, you might notice an odor I don’t. I have actually had someone ask if I could certify that the box, tape and packing material I use were odor free (I can’t). I do the best I can to honestly describe what I sell. I will be happy to answer questions to the best of my ability.
