Antique Swedish 1884 Sterling Silver Snuff Box ATL Mono & From Workers
by adminI suspect this pretty snuff or tobacco box was a retirement gift. Marked with the “three crowns” for Swedish sterling silver. Date code X5 = 1876, so inscribed 1884 after manufacturing date. I could not identify the silversmith or town mark. The top is monogrammed “ATL”. The reverse is inscribed “af Arbetare”, translated (I believe) to “from workers”. Condition: Decent giftable condition. Mentionable issue: corners of lid show damage as seen in photos #6 & #7. The lid does not stay shut, probably because of this reason. Monogram and inscription as described and photographed. Surface patina has light surface scratches commiserate with age and use. No pings, dings, dents, bashes, flat spots, carbon spots, gouges, unusual scratches, or other mentionable issues. Recent thorough hand polish. Dimensions: 3.25″ wide x 2-1/8″ long x 1 thick. Silver weight: 69 grams. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views. All dimensions and weights approximate. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.
