This beautiful handcrafted piece is richly decorated on all sides with intricate Arabic calligraphy, likely featuring verses from the Qur’an. The box was used by scholars or scribes to store writing instruments, including reed pens, ink, and sealing tools. Extensive hand-engraved inscriptions in elegant Naskh or Thuluth script. Decorative geometric and floral motifs. A star-shaped opening inside the box likely meant for an inkpot. Original hinged lid and clasp mechanism still intact. Beautiful natural copper patina from age and use. This type of qalamdan was highly prized in Islamic scholarly culture and is both functional and a piece of fine Islamic calligraphic art.
