Looks to be 1880s-1900 or so. Very fine details and stunning embossing. Scene of some frontiersman, settlers, cows, around a campfire and hauling their cover wagon. Small dent to one corner (see finger point pic). A couple of small rust spots (see finger point pics). 9″ x 8.5″. This appears to be an antique tintype photograph case, possibly from the mid-to-late 19th century. The embossed or relief design on the case depicts a frontier or pioneer camp scene, complete with a covered wagon, settlers around a campfire, and a tent. The floral border suggests a Victorian-era aesthetic, which was common in decorative items from that time. Possible Uses & History. Photograph Case : These cases were often used to store and protect daguerreotype, ambrotype, or tintype photographs. Jewelry or Keepsake Box : Some similar cases were repurposed for storage of small valuables.
